Mrs Luke and the Mini Vinnies
The Mini Vinnies are a Junior Branch of the St Vincent de Paul Society. We are fortunate that one of our Teaching Assistants, Mrs. Luke supports this group.
At Our Lady & St Thomas School, the Mini Vinnies is made up of a Key Stage 2 pupils who meet together once a month to discuss and plan how to help those in need within the school and local community.
This school year, so far we have looked at the story of the Good Samaritan to develop our understanding of who our “neighbour” is and how we can be a good friend.
- Pupils made Christmas and Easter cards for the elderly or people who were unwell within the Parish.
- They also planned and ran fundraising stalls at the school Easter Fair.
- They have discussed other ideas of how to fund raise for those in need – both close to home and far away.
- Pupils have talked about God’s care of us through reading Psalm 23.
Mini Vinnies have lots of fun and give support to one another throughout the school year.
October 2016 Supporting Our Local Food Bank
Our Mini Vinnies supported by Mrs Luke decided it would be a great idea to collect tinned and packaged food for our local foodbank. This was a different approach to the idea of ‘Harvest Festival’ when traditionally harvest foods are shared in the community. It was felt by supporting our local food bank in Willington; we could support those in need in our immediate area. Thank you very much for your generous donations – they will make a real difference to vulnerable families. Above you can see who are Mini Vinnies are.
