Welcome to Class 1

Welcome to Class 1.

Our new Reception children have settled into Class 1 so nicely and the Year 1 children have been a fantastic help with this.

During the Autumn Term the children will be learning how to identify and describe a range of animals and about seasonal changes. They will be thinking about what it means to be part of a family and also part of a community and will be learning more about what facilities we have in our locality. We will also be finding out about the history of the Gunpowder Plot and producing self-portraits as part of our art curriculum.

Religious Education

Our topics in RE this term are related to Families, Belonging and Waiting.

During maths lessons we will be covering topics such as counting, ordering and forming numbers, estimation, shape and learning how to solve problems in these areas.

The Y1 children are still working within the Read Write Inc Scheme in Literacy and the Reception children are beginning to learn their letter sounds. All the children complete handwriting activities and reading activities each day.

Reading, Spellings and Homework

Please support your child with their reading at home. They are expected to read, and have their books signed 4 times each week. Even if your child reads the same book over a few nights or a book from home please make sure you sign at least 4 times each week. Books are usually changed every week but please ensure your child’s books are in their school bag every day.

Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be handed in on a Monday morning. The Reception children will be bringing home sound books so that they can work on the letters and sounds we have been learning in class.

Y1 spellings will be given out on a Monday and will be tested the following Friday in the back of the book. This means that you can see how they have done when they bring their book home.

PE is currently on a Friday and they should come to school already in their PE kits.

Please ensure that all items of clothing including jumpers, cardigans, t-shirts, trousers, skirts and tights are labelled and also label shoes if possible as children need to change their shoes regularly throughout the day. Please could you send indoor shoes for your child if you have not done so already.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if any further information is required. We are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have so that we can work together to ensure that your child is happy and reaches their full potential.

Thank you,

Mrs. Brown
